De Queen, AR — The University of Arkansas Cossatot proudly acknowledges the invaluable support of for their generous donation of time, expertise, and equipment to install new utility poles in the college’s Aerial Lineman Program pole yard and soccer field. This contribution directly enhances hands-on training for linemen while also providing the infrastructure needed to install nets on the soccer field, enriching the student-athlete experience.

“Hands-on training is essential for careers in broadband lineman work, where technical skills, safety awareness, and problem-solving are best mastered through direct experience,” said Steve Cole, Chancellor of UA Cossatot. “Thanks to Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative and Four States Fiber, our students will continue to benefit from a training facility that mirrors real-world broadband installation scenarios, ensuring they graduate fully prepared for industry careers. Plus, this project also allows us to enhance our soccer facilities, improving the game experience for student-athletes.”

Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative and Four States Fiber are dedicated to bridging the digital divide by expanding broadband access and strengthening infrastructure in rural communities. Through its subsidiary Four States Fiber, Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative is actively working to bring high-speed fiber internet to underserved areas, ensuring reliable connectivity for homes, businesses, and schools. Their vision is to enhance economic development and improve quality of life by empowering communities to compete in the global digital economy.

The Aerial Lineman Program is a free initiative under the Arkansas Fiber Academy, funded by the Office of Skills Development. Co-designed with industry partners, this short-term career training program offers participants an opportunity to begin meaningful and rewarding careers in the telecommunications construction industry. In addition to free training, qualifying participants may receive supportive services for transportation costs. Graduates are also equipped with over $3,000 worth of personal protective equipment and climbing gear, ensuring they are ready to enter the workforce safely and confidently.
