Veterans Day Breakfast Takes Place at UA Cossatot

On Monday, November 11, 2019, UA Cossatot held its annual Veterans Day Breakfast at the UA Cossatot De Queen Campus. The breakfast took place in the Skilled Trades Building and began at 9:00 A.M. Along with food, the event included special music and guest speakers to celebrate and honor our local veterans in Southwest Arkansas.
UA Cossatot Director of Institutional Research and Assessment, Tommi Cobb welcomed everyone at the start of the event, and UA Cossatot Radio Broadcasting Manager Loren Hinton was the event moderator. The De Queen High School Show Choir came to the college and performed three songs to honor the veterans.
Arkansas State Representative, DeAnn Vaught, and U.S. Congressmen Bruce Westerman were invited to speak at the 2019 Veterans Day Breakfast. Both acknowledged the sacrifices our veterans have made and expressed their appreciation for their service.

The Veterans Day Breakfast also included special guest speaker, Ricky Hendricks. Mr. Hendricks is from Horatio, Arkansas. He has served as a Staff Sergeant with the Arkansas National Guard, 153rd. He was deployed with his unit to the Iraqi Freedom II Operation in 2004-2005 along with the 1st Calvary Division. He was awarded two Purple Hearts for being injured in the line of duty.

The Purple Heart is America’s oldest military decoration. It was created by then General George Washington in 1782. The Purple Heart is awarded for those who are wounded or killed in any military action against an enemy.
Currently, Mr. Hendricks serves as a Commander in the American Legion Charles E. Brown Post #54 in De Queen and also as the Quartermaster for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4521.
UA Cossatot, Chancellor, Dr. Steve Cole thanked everyone for attending the Veterans Day Breakfast, and the program ended with door prizes, a flag ceremony, and a closing prayer.
