10,500 Meals Packed and $8,000 Raised on #GivingTuesday
December 01, 2017
Over 200 Southwest Arkansas community members provide 10,500 meals and $8,000 for scholarships and programs during the University of Arkansas Cossatot Foundation #GivingTuesday campaign on November 28, 2017.
#GivingTuesday is a day during the busy holiday season focused on giving back. Originating from social media, giving back can be simply sharing about a local non-profit or organization through social media, donating money to a favorite charity, or volunteering time to a local non-profit.
Many organizations in Southwest Arkansas take advantage of #GivingTuesday. One of those organizations is the University of Arkansas Cossatot Foundation.
Local businesses participated in the foundation’s #GivingTuesday celebration by collecting donations on site and wearing “I Gave” #GivingTuesday t-shirts.
These businesses included Tres Agaves, Mary Pops, Simple Simons, Miscellania JB, Dr. Walker’s Office, and La Media Luna in De Queen.
The UA Cossatot Foundation received $8,000 on November 28 from individual donors, businesses, and a Legacy 2020 Campaign donor.
In addition to collecting donations for scholarships and innovative college programming, the Center for Student Success hosted a Feed the Funnel meal packing party with the help of The Pack Shack and funding from the UA Cossatot Foundation and UAC faculty and staff. A group of 55 UAC students, staff, faculty, and community members assembled 10,500 meals in less than an hour at the UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Gymnasium. The college’s Center for Student Success will distribute the meals to college students in need through 2018.
“It is truly memorable when students, faculty, staff, and community members come together to celebrate a culture of generosity by serving side by side,” said Emily Newlin, UA Cossatot Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement.
“There is nothing quite like small town generosity, and it was powerful to see it in full force on #GivingTuesday! UA Cossatot students are blessed to have so many people interested and invested in their success,” Newlin shared.
