UA Cossatot Receives $225,000 ANCRC Grant
May 12, 2017
Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council voted on and approved a proposal on Wednesday made by UA Cossatot staff awarding the college a $225,000 grant to restore Lockesburg High School.
UA Cossatot Chancellor Steve Cole said, “This grant will enable us to restore the historical integrity of the Lockesburg High School, to preserve educational history, and revive its educational purpose.”
The high school closed in 2010 and has educational history that dates back to the 1950s.
The college received an ANCRC grant in 2016 that allowed for the restoration of the Bank of Lockesburg UA Cossatot Gymnasium. The grant awarded Wednesday will provide for the complete restoration of the Lockesburg campus.
The college will preserve the sidewalks displaying graduate names. A museum dedicated to the history of Lockesburg School District will also be housed at the high school.
Continuing education, adult education, industrial technology and workforce training, and concurrent educational activities will all be hosted at the high school campus.
The college will submit the high school to the Arkansas Historic Register upon restoration.
