Quick Facts About Project LEEP

Project LEEP is designed to help Paraprofessionals
obtain an Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Teaching,
or Associate in Applied Science in Early Childhood Education
degree as required by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
- Project LEEP will also award scholarships to area individuals
who would like to work in the public schools.
- LEEP provides tuition, fees, and books for qualified applicants.
Childcare and transportation funds are also available to participants.
- LEEP participants must agree to work in an area school for
two years after obtaining a two year degree.
- LEEP has an agreement with 22 area schools, two educational
cooperatives, and the Southwest Arkansas Migrant Educational
Cooperative in Hope.
- Preference will be given to bilingual applicants.
- Participants will obtain a Certificate of Proficiency in
ESL.
Project LEEP was written in response to the No Child Left
Behind Act of 2001 and is a federally funded grant. NCLB states
that paraprofessionals must (1) have two years of college,
(2) an AA degree or better, (3) or pass a state mandated test.
Those who are currently employed in a local education agency
must have one of the three components completed by January
8, 2006. New employees hired by school districts must have
one of the three qualifications to be hired.
