“I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to go to college and graduate.  I know how hard it is for many migrant students to continue their education, so I am honored to be the new CAMP Director at CCC U of A to help them continue their education and have a better future.”

Brandon Sims - CAMP Recruiter

Brandon Sims - CAMP RecruiterBrandon Sims is the CAMP Recruiter, Phi Theta Kappa Advisor, and Adjunct Faculty member for Introduction to Criminal Justice. Brandon is a proud De Queen High School graduate. He returned after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. Brandon found his lovely wife Crystal at Cossatot and married her before anyone else had the chance. They now have a beautiful daughter.

“I graduated with two Hispanic students from De Queen High School in 1998, but I knew that Hispanic families were moving to De Queen to find work at an increasing rate. When I returned from college in 2004, I quickly realized that the Hispanic population had grown exponentially. The problem with the growth was the fact that only a few Hispanic individuals have furthered their education.  I wanted to be a part of the solution with the College Assisted Migrant Program. CAMP is not specifically for Hispanic students, but in Sevier County the majority of students that qualify for the Migrant Education Programs in our area schools are Hispanic. As a recruiter I have the privilege of convincing students that they do not have to work in the same backbreaking jobs as their parents. Most of the students I speak to do not believe that college is a feasible option for them, but we can help support them financially and academically. “

"I was born and raised as a migrant worker's daughter and never had the opportunity to attend college when I was younger, so with this in mind, I am proud to be involved in the CAMP Project. I believe God gave me two gifts, one of giving, and one of serving, and through CAMP I will be able to utilize both gifts by serving and giving to migrant students who may not have the opportunity for a college education without the program. Young people are our future, and I would like to see every young person obtain the education that is so important to how successful his or her future will be."
