Sevier County To Employ Economic Development Coordinator
August 25, 2017
The University of Arkansas Cossatot, Rural Development Authority (RDA) of Sevier County, Sevier County Industrial Board, and Sevier County Judge’s Office have partnered to hire an Economic Development Coordinator for the county.
Once in place, this person will act as the Property Manager, Community Editor, and the Economic Developer for Sevier County. The posting and hiring of this position will occur later this fall with the start date of January 8, 2018.
According to UA Cossatot Chancellor Steve Cole, “This is a huge benefit for the area."
"We have been putting the pieces in place for this arrangement for quite some time. Now that we have all the funding in place, we wish to position Sevier County as one of the most attractive counties in Arkansas for existing and new businesses.”
While the new economic development person will be housed on the UA Cossatot campus in De Queen, their work will be countywide. The coordinator will be the point person for any economic development activity that takes place in the county. They will also be responsible for creating a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for Sevier County, which will be the key to new project funding opportunities.
Cole added, “This person will have the drive and energy to move the county culture to one that allows businesses and industries that are already here and those who locate here to prosper.”
“If it wasn’t for the collaborative and sharing attitude of everyone involved this project couldn’t have happened.”
The Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) endorses this project and has offered their expertise and insight to ensure its success. The criteria and application process for this position will be posted at www.cccua.ed/jobs when available.
