CCCUA/NPCC Childcare Instruction Start Date Set
04 August 2004

DE QUEEN – The Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education (AAS/ECE) offered by Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas in conjunction with National Park Community College (NPCC) at Hot Springs via interactive television will begin meeting Wednesday, August 18th. Robbie McKelvy, Chair of the Division of University Transfer at CCCUA, made the announcement today. “We made this announcement early because NPCC is beginning classes the week before we do, and we didn’t want any of our students to miss the opportunity to get into this class,” McKelvy said.

The class will be offered via interactive TV at the three CCCUA locations in De Queen, Nashville and Ashdown. The class, “Methods and Materials of Early Childhood Education,” meets Wednesdays, 6-9, beginning August 18. McKelvy said students could register anytime before the class start date.

McKelvy added that this class constitutes part of the technical section of the program. The AAS/ECE degree is for students who desire to work in a daycare or preschool setting. “CCCUA is handling the academic end of this degree, which includes College Algebra, Composition I and other Associate’s-level courses, and NPCC is handling the instruction for the technical end,” McKelvy concluded.

For more information on this and other academic programs, contact McKelvy at 800-844-4471, Extension 166.

Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has an enrollment of more than 1,100 students, and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
