CCCUA Keeps Its Promise to the Public
09 July 2004
DE QUEEN – Chancellor Frank G. Adams announced today that CCCUA has come a long way toward keeping a promise he made to the public three years ago. "That promise was that, when we joined the U of A System, Cossatot would bring bachelor's and master's degrees here," he said.
He added, "When I joined the Cossatot staff in 1992, the College Trustees and I agreed that because the De Queen campus was 30 to 40 miles from the population centers of the counties we were to serve, it would be necessary to take the college out into the community. We did that by opening extensions in Nashville and Ashdown, with smaller sites for adult education and computer training in Foreman, Nashville, Tollette, and other small communities. We also have two mobile units we operate with a Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation grant, taking classes to the remotest parts of our service area."
"Now, through internet technology and interactive video classrooms, we are bringing programs from four-year institutions to Sevier, Little River, and Howard Counties," Adams said. He noted that students can begin their college career close to home with CCCUA, and earn a Bachelor's degree without the heavy expenses of going away to college.
The College has numerous educational partnerships. They are:
Associate of Arts Degree partnerships:
Associate of Arts in Fire Science: Southern Arkansas University Tech at Camden.
Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice: Criminal Justice Institute in Little Rock.
Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Degree partnerships:
Bachelor of Arts in Agriculture: University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
Bachelor of Arts in Business, Computers, and other fields: Franklin University, Columbus, Ohio.
Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) in Human Resource Development: U of A - Fayetteville.
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education: Southern Arkansas University.
Bachelor of Science in Forestry: University of Arkansas at Monticello
Master of Arts Degree partnerships:
Master of Arts in Business, Computers, and other fields: Franklin University, Columbus, Ohio
Master of Arts in Human Resource Development, with tracks in Vocational and Adult Education, Human Resources, and Rehabilitation Services: University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Adams added, "This special high-tech effort we are making to bring university programs to our citizen makes CCCUA incur additional expenses that aren’t covered by state revenues or local taxes. We may have to add a special technology fee at some point to all of the courses we offer through outside colleges. But even with that, CCCUA will still be far cheaper and much more convenient than driving hundreds of miles to a four-year college or university."
Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has an enrollment of more than 1,100 students, and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
