HS Academic Credit Recovery Classes Set for CCCUA-Ashdown
30 June 2004
DE QUEEN – Kristin Bowden, Vice Chancellor for Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, has announced that the College will register high school students for Academic Credit Recovery classes at its Ashdown Extension on Friday, July 9. The classes are designed for students who did not pass English or Math in the 9th through 12th grades during the school year just ended. The College’s Ashdown Extension is located at 1461 N. Constitution Avenue (Highway 71 North), in Ashdown.
Ashdown High School students will register between 10AM and 12 Noon, and students from other schools may register between 1PM and 3PM on a space-available basis.
Students may register to recover a maximum of one full credit. Tuition for the credit recovery classes is $150 per half credit (half day), which is due at the time of registration. Students living outside the Ashdown High School District will be required to pay a $50 deposit per book, which will be refunded when the book is turned in.
The classes will meet Mondays through Thursdays from July 12th through August 5th. English and Math credit recovery will be offered in morning (8AM to noon) and afternoon sessions (12:30-4:30), so students desiring to recover one full credit may attend English all day or Math all day. Instructors for the sessions are: English, Glenda Carr and Mary Carson, and Math, Lori Vaught. For more information, contact the Ashdown Extension direct at 870-898-4733 or Kristin Bowden at 1-800-844-4471.
CCCUA Division of University Transfer Chair Robbie McKelvy said, “We are pleased that we are able to offer these credit recovery classes first to students from Ashdown High School, then to others as space allows. Offering summer classes in this manner can help students who are motivated to get the credits they need to graduate on time.”
Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification
and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De
Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has
an enrollment of more than 1,100 students, and is accredited by the Higher
Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
