DE QUEEN – Larry Moser, Chair of the Division of Technology at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, has announced an agreement with the School of Forestry Resources at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Moser said that CCCUA students who are interested in further studies in Forestry, Surveying, and Spatial Information Systems may now make a seamless transfer from CCCUA to UAM, due to the recent completion of an articulation agreement between CCCUA and UAM. The agreement permits students to complete most of their academic and some of their technical coursework at CCCUA transferring to UAM to complete one of several Bachelor’s degree offerings in the UAM School of Forestry Resources.
Moser noted that one degree offering, Spatial Information Systems (SIS), represents the cutting edge of computer, drafting, and surveying applications. It includes coursework in GPS (Global Positioning Systems), GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and RS (Remote Sensing). SIS is rapidly becoming a standard tool in forestry, environmental science, real estate appraisal, industrial development, city planning, research, and many other fields. He added that the career outlook is good for those wanting to enter this field. “If you love the outdoors, this is a very rewarding career choice,” he said.
Of the agreement with UAM, Moser said, “This new agreement is a real plus for students from our region. They can accumulate basic academic and technical courses at home, then complete their Bachelor’s degree at UAM’s respected School of Forestry Resources.” He added that the School of Forestry Resources offers majors in Forestry, Wildlife Management, and Spatial Information Systems. Students may complete minors in Surveying, Forestry, Wildlife Management, and Geographic Information Systems.
