New Degree Options Available Through UAFS
Release Date: 01 DEC 2003

DE QUEEN – Larry Moser, Chair of the Division of Technology at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, has announced an agreement with the School of Applied Science and Technology at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. Students who have already done basic course work in Computer Technology can now seamlessly pursue further studies toward a Bachelor’s degree in Networking, Computer Programming, Web Development, Database Management, Manufacturing Technology Management, and Spatial Information Systems at UAFS. Recent completion of an articulation agreement between CCCUA and UAFS will permit students to complete most academic and technical coursework at CCCUA and transfer to UAFS for completion of one of several Bachelor degree offerings in the UAFS School of Applied Science and Technology.

One degree offering, the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS), represents a unique means of capitalizing on the CCCUA Associate of Applied Science degree program to complete a Bachelor’s degree. Through the BAS program, CCCUA graduates with an AAS degree in such fields as General Technology with majors in Welding Technology, Automotive Technology, Collision Repair Technology, Computer Information Systems Technology, Construction Technology, Computer Assisted Drawing Technology, Electrical Technology, Fire Science Technology or any other AAS program, may transfer the degree, intact, to the UAFS BAS program. This transfer makes it possible for a student to complete the BAS degree in 18 months through week-end courses, web-based instruction and some coursework at CCCUA.

Moser said, “This new agreement is a real plus for students from our region. They can study and earn an AAS degree at home in preparation for completing their Bachelor’s at UA-Fort Smith’s highly acclaimed School of Applied Science and Technology. This arrangement assures students from our region a high-quality education, whether they’re in a traditional academic program or in the many cutting-edge technical programs that business and industry are pursuing so hotly now.”
