CCCUA Special Enrollments Show Big Gains
Release Date: 20 Nov 2003

DE QUEEN – Steve Cole, Chair of the Division of Adult, Distance and Continuing Education at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, has announced that the number of students taking Internet courses at CCCUA has climbed significantly this semester.

“We have 525 individuals enrolled online this semester, and they are collectively occupying 960 seats in 38 sections of 32 different courses. That translates into our internet students taking an average of 1.83 courses each,” Cole said. The College’s total fall enrollment was 1062, up from 1056 this past spring, and up more than 100 students from last fall’s 945.

Cole went on to state that enrollment in interactive television courses is also up significantly, to 182. “We are the only two-year college in the state to have two sets of three interactive video classrooms, and the ones which are being used for CCCUA-based classes are being fully utilized. The AV2 classrooms are booked from 8AM Monday to 10PM Thursday.” He added that funding to set up the interactive video classrooms came from a federal grant. The first set of three interactive video classrooms came online in 2001.

Cole concluded by talking about Open Enrollment Period “A”, one of three off-schedule semesters offered by the College each year. He said that enrollment in the “A” period for this year was 109, more than double the enrollment for the “A” period offered in 2002. “People are catching on that these off-schedule enrollment periods are a great way to pick up an extra class, or ease their way back into college without having to go through all the rush-rush of fall and spring registration,” he said.

Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has an enrollment of more than 1,000 students, and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Higher Learning.
