DE QUEEN – The Student Senate at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas has been recognized for its efforts to host blood drives at the College over the past school year, according to Student Senate sponsor Bruce Franklin.

Three Student Senate members Shauna Talley, Student Senate Representative Kathryn Thomasson, Parliamentarian, and Jeannie Story, Student Senate President, were presented with a plaque from United Blood Services of Texarkana recognizing their efforts to collect 64 units of blood this academic year
.
“People don’t realize just how important and how short the blood supply is,” said Franklin. Quoting a letter he received from Kisha Slaton, United Blood Services’ Donor Recruiter Representative, “our support of this community service is essential to maintain regular and dependable blood service to area hospitals.” He indicated that Slaton said that some of the blood that was donated on January 27 had already been used for transfusions.

Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has an enrollment of more than 1,000 students, and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Higher Learning.
