DE QUEEN – The first of two LPN scholarship recipients was named Friday at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas. Jeannie Stevens received the first $500 installment of the $1000 Liz Whisenhunt Memorial Scholarship.

Stevens, a student in the LPN program at CCCUA, is a 1990 graduate of Foreman High School. The scholarship is conditioned on her completing the spring semester with a 3.0 or higher grade point average. She stated her goal in receiving the scholarship is to complete the LPN program and then to pursue her Registered Nurse certification through the Arkansas Rural Nursing Education Consortium program at CCCUA. “The scholarship has made the funds available to continue in this program without having to hold down a job,” she said. Of the College, she said, “I love attending CCCUA because it is small enough that every student is important. I feel the LPN program is tough, but we will be ready for successful employment after graduation.”

Cossatot Community College offers both technical certification and Associate’s degrees in a wide range of fields on its campus at De Queen, at extension sites at Nashville and Ashdown, and at cccua.edu. It has an enrollment of more than 1,000 students, and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Higher Learning.
