College Announces New Engineering Program
ASHDOWN – Steve McJunkins, Chair of the Division of Skilled and Technical Sciences, has announced that the College has received approval for an Associate of Applied Science in Engineering Technology degree. The program will be offered at the College’s Little River campus in Ashdown beginning in the fall of 2010. The first semester of classes will be limited to ten students on a first come basis and these seats will fill quickly. Registration has already begun and some seats have been filled.
McJunkins said, “The Engineering Technology Applied Science Degree is designed to meet the needs of business and industry in Surveying, Computer Aided Design and Drafting. This broad-based program will prepare a student to pursue job opportunities in any field of engineering or continuing their education at a four-year university.” “A strong background in Mathematics is needed for a student to be successful in this program,” McJunkins added.
McJunkins went on to say that CCCUA is working with the Engineering department at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville and the Surveying department at the University of Arkansas Monticello to develop Memorandums of Understanding that will insure transferability into their programs of study.
Students will gain practical experience by working in the field and in the lab with experienced personnel and educators from each area of study. Completion of the course will prepare students for entry level positions in Surveying, advanced positions in Computer Aided Design, and transfer into related Engineering programs.
