CCCUA Inaugurates Rodeo Team
DE QUEEN – Nicki Litchford, Agriculture Instructor at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, announced today that the College has formed the Triple C College Rodeo team. This team, comprised of college-age men and women, will compete in rodeos sanctioned by the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) beginning this fall. They will compete in NIRA’s Ozark region.
The team will consist of 6 men and 4 women. They will work in individual events to earn points for the team. There are 10 rodeos and finals, as well as national finals in Wyoming. Events include Team Roping, Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, Tie-down Calf Roping, Goat-tying, Steer Wrestling, Breakaway Roping, and Bronc Riding.
The College is pleased to announce that current Agri students Briony Gentry, Colby Klumb, Justin Simmons, and Adam Carver are on the team. The team also has area high school graduates who have extensive achievements in rodeo, including Chad Janes, Nichole Bradshaw and Lauren Bizell. Horatio High School senior Brandy Hale is a champion Breakaway roper, and comes from a family with deep roots in rodeo. Litchford said, “If there are people out there who want to start or continue their college education and be on a rodeo team as well, Cossatot is now a place where they can do that, and do it close to home.”
The team will have organized practices beginning this fall, and will represent CCCUA in the ten rodeos. They plan to hold fundraisers through the summer to offset some of their travel expenses.
