CCCUA Inks Agreement With SAU For Agri Program
DE QUEEN – The De Queen campus of Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas was the scene of a historic signing Friday morning. CCCUA and Southern Arkansas University have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding that will put in place the required faculty and curriculum to allow CCCUA students to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Agri-Business at the De Queen campus.
Southern Arkansas University (SAU) will offer three classes on the De Queen campus to provide for the seamless transfer of CCCUA students into the Agricultural-Business course of study offered at SAU upon completion of an AA degree from CCCUA. The classes are: Crops with lab, Principles of Agricultural Economics, and Elements of Forestry with lab. Other agricultural courses required for the Agricultural-Business program will be offered at De Queen as they become practical. The business courses required for this degree are currently offered online through SAU in Magnolia.
Admission requirements for this program are the same as the Agriculture program on the SAU campus. Fifty-three hours of credit, in addition to the AA degree, will be required for graduation.
Freshman- and sophomore-level courses applicable to the SAU Agri-Business Degree will be applicable to the AA degree students at CCCUA. Admission and registration will be completed on the CCCUA campus.
Chancellor-Elect Steve Cole said, “The program may utilize distance technology as well as face-to-face instruction. Support is available both locally and through distance technology from the ITS support faculty and staff on the SAU campus.”
Students and faculty working in the CCCUA/SAU program have access to all of the SAU campus library resources. Access to SAU library resources is summarized and facilitated through the SAU Library’s distance learning Web pages.
Barbara Lacefield, Division Chair Business and Agriculture, noted that CCCUA students are getting a deal on tuition. “Our students who enroll in the SAU Agri courses taught at CCCUA will pay the CCCUA tuition rate. SAU is going to provide a scholarship reflecting the difference between CCCUA and SAU tuition rates. This discount only applies to the three courses leading to the AA degree that are taken in the student’s first two years at Cossatot.”
