Question 1: When does the program begin?
Answer: Fall of each year as long as there are at least 12 eligible students
Question 2: When and where are the classes offered from SAU?
Answer: Three nights a week (usually Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) starting at 4pm. One night is always in De Queen with the other nights offered through AV in Nashville or De Queen.
Question 3: When do I apply for the SAU partnership?
Answer: Applications to SAU should be sent directly to Sandra Walker in the Spring before the student plans to enroll with SAU.
Question 4: How much does it cost?
Answer: For the last two years (SAU part), the student pays tuition as an SAU student. This cost is around $3000 per semester, plus books. Students should fill out the FASFA in the Spring for SAU. If the student receives financial aid, it will cover about ¾ of the cost. SAU does offer a transfer scholarship that can be applied for in the Spring semester (before entering). The application for the scholarship is in the CCCUA Financial Aid office and online.
Question 5: What is the Praxis I exam?
Answer: This is a national test which is required for education programs in Arkansas.It is a basic skills standardized test over Writing, Reading, and Math. IT IS A REQUIREMENT TO GRADUATE WITH THE AAT SO IT MUST BE TAKEN BY THE FIRST MONTH OF YOUR LAST SEMESTER WITH CCCUA.[February for Spring and September for Fall] The Praxis I exam costs approximately $140 and can be taken in paper or computer formats. Question 6: Can I study for the Praxis I exam?
Answer: There are many study books available on the internet and in bookstores. CCCUA Kimball Library also has an online database with practice tests which can be used to experience the timing and design of the test. It is recommended to take the practice test at home before paying and taking the actual test.
Directions for accessing the Praxis I test on the CCCUA Library website:
- Go to the CCCUA homepage at: http://cccua.edu
- On the top of the page, click on the "Quick Links" drop-down menu.
- In the drop-down list, find and click on Kimball Library.
- Click on "Online Library Resources" located in the left navigation bar.
- Sign in with your username and password (ID and barcode from library card)
- In the list of databased, find and click on "Learning Express Library". You may also search for the test by typing Praxis I.
- The Praxis I test will be located under the College Preperation area and it is listed as the PSAT/NMSQT. There are three sections that cover the writing, math, and reading.
Note: You will need to register the first time you access the database. Pick a username and password that you can remember. Also, you may notice that there is also a Praxis II tested listed for middle school and primary. You will be taking that one after your first year of classes with SAU. It is a pedagogy type test, rather that a basic skills exam.
Question 7: Is there a way to extend my licensure to the 5th and 6th grades?
Answer: Yes. The guidelines for adding a credential is located on the ADE website.
