Compass Testing

The Compass test is a college readiness exam that is provided by the same company who created the ACT. Any student without ACT, SAT or ASSET scores must take the Math, Reading, and/or Writing portions of the Compass test before they can be enrolled in any courses. This will simply allow an advisor to place students in courses they are ready for, and get additional assistance with Math and Reading/Writing when needed.

You will need to complete an Application for Admission before taking your Compass exam. You will also be directed by Student Services to Educational Resource Center to complete a Compass Tutorial before gaining access to the exam in the Testing Center.

Your first Compass test can be taken at no charge. After your initial assessment, you are required to pay $5 per each section you retake.

If a student is three points away from the next level, an automatic retest is permitted if desired by the student.

If a student is more than three points from the next designated level, the student must wait 24 hours to retest. It is recommended that in this time the student visits The Learning Center to receive tutoring on areas they are finding difficult.

After the second attempt, if the student has not reached the designated level and would like to retest, they must wait 7 days and are required to meet with Learning Center staff for tutoring in deficient area before retesting is permitted.
